VDP, Germany´s finest wine estates
VDP Prädikatsweingüter, the only and eldest German national association of fine wine estates in the world, founded 1910, will be represented at the 2015 Sommelier’s Day.
The VDP eagle is a stylised eagle bearing a cluster of grapes. That´s the symbol shared by appr. 200 wine producers throughout the German wine country. It guarantees wine of the highest quality from the finest wine estates in Germany, and provides both wine novices and connoisseurs incentive to discover the world of fine wine. Subject to high standard, the VDP and it´s members are a bastion of quality in today´s globalized world. The VDP eagle, a sign of the highest quality wines in Germany and pure wine pleasure.
Seminar by VDP on Jan 31
During the seminar on Saturday Jan 31, participants will be illustrated along a selection of VDP Grosses Gewächs, the dry wines from VDP Grosse Lagen and the VDP classification of origins.
The seminar will have different kinds of tastings. The tasting will be focused on Riesling that accounts for more than 50% of the VDP estates plantings. It will be a tasting of Riesling from one estate and how Riesling performs grown on different regions and on different soils. Another tasting is a flight of Silvaner, Weissburgunder grape varieties as well as Spätburgunder and Blaufränkisch. All from different wine regions, estates and sites.
Representation at Sommelierernas Dag 2015
On Sunday Feb 1, during the sommelier fair the VDP estates will be personally represented on site and show some fine specimen of their estates collections. You are able to try wine of Germany’s best producers from Baden, Mosel, Pfalz, Rheingau and Rheinhessen.
